Every one talks to the hub in your house. No maker's cloud, nothing a month.
What they do on the hub
Joined once. Then part of the house.Joinedonce. Thenpartofthehouse.
On, off, brighter, dimmer
From any phone, tablet or computer, from a tile on Home, or by asking: "Turn off all the lights".
Lights that wait for you
A motion light turns off after 5 minutes without movement, and fresh movement starts the count again.
Sunset, give or take
Fairy lights at sunset, or 20 minutes before. Never on all day.
Every light when it matters
When the alarm trips, the lights we wire in with you come on to full.
Brand by brand
The ones that join. No cloud needed.Theonesthatjoin. Nocloudneeded.
Which models, and what each brand does once it has joined. Not sure about yours? Send us a photo and we will tell you straight.
Philips Hue
Works locally
Bulbs, lamps and strips on a Hue Bridge.
The hub talks to the Hue Bridge in your house, not to Hue's servers: press the round button on the bridge once and every Hue light appears in the app. The Hue app keeps working beside it.
Colours and colour scenes stay in the Hue app for now; on the hub it is on, off and brightness.
IKEA
Works locally
TRÅDFRI Zigbee bulbs and panels, joined straight to the hub. No IKEA hub needed.
IKEA's Zigbee bulbs pair with the hub directly, so there is no gateway to buy, and each bulb on the mains passes messages on for the sensors near it.
IKEA's newest bulbs use Thread instead of Zigbee. Send us the model and we will check it first.
LIFX
Works locally
Wi-Fi bulbs and strips.
LIFX bulbs need no bridge at all: each one is on your Wi-Fi and the hub talks to it on your own network, so a sunset rule still runs with the internet down.
Nanoleaf
Works locally
Shapes, Canvas, Elements and Lines panels on Wi-Fi.
Nanoleaf panels join over your Wi-Fi after a few seconds' press of their power button, then dim and switch with the rest of the room in a scene.
The Essentials bulbs use Thread. Ask us about those first.
WiZ
Works locally
Wi-Fi bulbs and lamps, including the Philips Smart LED range with WiZ inside.
WiZ bulbs need no hub of their own, and the hub spots them on your network by itself, so a lamp bought on Saturday can be in the app on Sunday, added with your PIN.
Govee
Works locally
Wi-Fi strips and lamps that offer LAN Control in the Govee app. Not every model does.
Switch on LAN Control for each light in the Govee app once, and from then on the hub talks to it on your network, not through Govee's servers.
Models without LAN Control only work through Govee's cloud, so they cannot join.
SONOFF
Works locally
ZBMINIL2 and ZBMINI R2 Zigbee relays, fitted behind the light switch you already have.
We fit a small relay behind the switch on the wall, so the light you have becomes one the hub can run, and the switch still works by hand. The ZBMINIL2 needs no neutral wire, which suits most UK light switches.
What we leave out, and why
Lights that only work through their maker's cloud cannot join. On the hub, lights go on, off, brighter and dimmer; colours stay in the maker's own app for now.
Questions
Lights, answered plainly.Lights, answeredplainly.
Do Philips Hue lights work without the internet?
Yes. The hub talks to the Hue Bridge in your house, so your lights, scenes and sunset rules keep working when the internet is down.
Can I keep my normal light switches?
Yes. We fit a small relay behind the switch, so it still works by hand and the hub can run the light too. Most UK light switches have no neutral wire, and the relay we use does not need one.
Can the app change the colour of my lights?
Not yet. On the hub, lights go on, off, brighter and dimmer, by tap, by asking, in a scene or a rule. Colours stay in the maker's app for now.
Do I need a separate hub for each brand?
No. Most bulbs join the hub directly, over Zigbee or your Wi-Fi. Philips Hue keeps its own bridge, and the hub talks to it in your house.
